Some of our avid blog readers may remember
a post carrying this title from a few years ago. I'm realizing now that the title should've read "A Little Melodrama" but oh well!
Anyway, last week, we all took a trip to Tucson to see a play at the beloved Gaslight Theatre. It was in celebration of my parent's
30th wedding anniversary and my Dad's birthday! We've never really been huge fans of Tucson but we decided to make sort of a mini-vacation of it and we had a GREAT time!
We got spoiled with beautiful weather and got to go swimming every day!

She's so cool... |
And cute! She kills me!
Chase and Grant had a little dance party before we went out to eat.
We went to Target to pick up a few supplies and Grant LOVED it! He didn't want to leave and wanted me to take a picture of him on the red ball. That's my boy!
Grant's obsessed with glasses right now and always wants to wear mine. We found these in the $1 section at Target. He was a happy camper and wore them most of the trip.
Saturday morning, we went to the
Children's Museum.
We had SO much fun! There was so much to do, we wished we could've stayed longer or visit more often! You could honestly spend a whole week there and do something new every day! We've heard the one in Phoenix is awesome too but haven't checked it out yet.
They got to be paramedics.
And firefighters.
Chase's dream come true!
And they even got to save a baby, just like on Fireman Sam!
Pretending to be policemen (and lady)
Watching a spark of electricity travel.
Grant's Uncle Nate is a lineman and Grant got to try it out for a few seconds...I don't think he'll pursue it.
He just told me after he saw the picture, "Untoe Nate do dat, Mommy!"
I asked him if he got scared when he did it. He said "yeah". Then I asked him if Uncle Nate got scared when he does it. He said, "No, Untoe Nate not sterred".
Neither of us could remember what these things are called but it's a giant one of those things that has all the little nails/pins that take the form of whatever you put on it. We thought it was pretty cool! (I should note that Mike had probably just as much fun as the kids and was even sadder than they were when it was time to leave.)
Operating a submarine!
This was the experiment area where they got to see how different things work. Like air holding up these plastic balls.
Grant just really wanted to get the ball!
Visualizing sound.
Grocery shopping!
Making smoothies.
Seeing what our eyes, heart and nose look like up close. There was also a mouth, ear and lungs.
At the vet area, they got to take care of little animals like this one:
Remi LOVED these pinwheels! I wish we could've gotten a better picture because she was captivated!
More electrical stuff...
They couldn't resist a second trip to the firehouse.
After the museum, we headed to the
Reid Park Zoo, which was also AWESOME! It had lots of tall, shady trees, so even though it was really hot, you didn't feel like you were on the surface of the sun! The animals were close and the exhibits were all close together. I definitely recommend it over the Phoenix Zoo!
Seeing the anteater.
We got to see this monkey swinging from the branches. Grant was so excited about it and is still talking about it!
Aww...
Grant got up close and personal with this monkey.
And this tortoise. It must have really liked Grant, because he appeared to be trying to get to him.
The giraffe.
"De ewafent! Dat's bid!"
Yeah, I wasn't so brave!
|
JK, it's fake. It scared the devil out of me though! |
We hoped all the morning's activities would make the kids take a really good nap, since the play didn't start until 8:30p.m. and we figured it wouldn't end until around 11.
HAHAHAHAHA!
We should've known better who our kids (and their dad and Grandma) are! They didn't get a nap but still did great at the play!
The play was "Spider-guy" (a spoof on Spider-man) so Grant brought his. The place was packed and it was so cute to see him walking around with his backpack and Spider-man while we were waiting for our tickets!
They wouldn't let you take pictures during the play but I SO wish we could've!
*There was a part where a HUGE spider came out and Grant was SO scared, he was glued to Mike and rolling his fingers because he didn't know what else to do!
*Also, it was a musical and our little music-loving Remi was completely entranced every time they started singing and dancing.
Afterward, we got to meet the cast and they told us they loved looking down and seeing Remi so into it! Grant was stoked to get to meet "Spider-guy" but he was also really tired!
Chase as "Spider-guy"!
Poor, tired Grant as "Spider-guy"!
Hmm...
where have we seen this before?
Betty as Marilyn :)
We had a GREAT time and I wouldn't doubt it if we made our way toward Tucson sometime again soon!
